Where your things are kept
One page listing every place this site puts something, so you never have to guess.
On your device
Each tool keeps its working state in your browser's own storage, under a name beginning with ns. It is there so that a page you come back to is the page you left. None of it is sent anywhere, and no other site can read it.
ns:wheel- The wheel's names, weights, colours and its list of picks
ns:picker- The picker's list, its settings and its recent draws
ns:teams- The team maker's people, rules and last result
ns:number-wheel- The number wheel's range and its recent spins
ns:yes-no-wheel- The yes-or-no wheel's answers and its tally
ns-classroom- Classroom mode's saved registers — first names, and the day each was last used. This one is a small database rather than a single value
ns-santa-setup- A Secret Santa you were part-way through setting up
ns:lobby:- A join list you closed on this device, so the names survive a reload until you send them somewhere
ns-theme- Light, dark or automatic
ns-digits- Whether Eastern Arabic numerals are switched on
ns-lang-dismissed- That you dismissed the offer of another language
ns:pour- A list on its way from one tool to another, for the few seconds that takes
Cookies
Each of these does a job you asked for, and none of them tracks. The last one exists only if you host a join list, and there is one of those per list. There is no advertising cookie and no analytics cookie on this site. Cloudflare's network may add one short-lived cookie of its own, which is not ours and is not listed here.
ns_lang- The language you chose, so a shared link opens in it
ns_session- That you are signed in, if you ever sign in
ns_magic- A sign-in in progress; gone within fifteen minutes either way
ns_reveal- That you have already opened your own Secret Santa card on this device
ns_lobby_{code}- That this browser is the key to a join list you opened, so only it can manage that list. One per list, and it goes with the list a day later
On the server
Only what you asked us to keep: a wheel you shared, a join list you opened, a draw record you published, a Secret Santa you are running, an account if you made one, and a report you sent about a shared page. A name you offer a wheel to the gallery under is kept on that shared wheel itself rather than anywhere new. The privacy page lists each of them with how long it stays.
Clearing all of it
Clearing this site's data in your browser removes everything in the two lists above at once, and it cannot be undone — so export a class register first if you want to keep it. Anything on the server has its own delete button on the page that made it.
Why there is no cookie banner
A banner is for storage that is not necessary: advertising, cross-site tracking, analytics that follow you. This site has none of that. Everything above either does a job you asked for or holds a preference you set, and the visit counter stores nothing at all — so there is nothing to ask permission for, and a banner would be theatre.
